The Light Brigade Certificate of Completion is given to everyone who completes a Light Brigade training course. It denotes:

  • Class content
  • Course dates you attended
  • Number of instruction hours
  • Instructor's signature
  • Class code number (for verification purposes)

ETA Certification

The Light Brigade offers independent certification through the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA). ETA-certified technicians are professionally recognized as having the knowledge and skills to meet international de facto electronics industry standards. ETA certification is valid for four years.

The ETA Fiber Optic Installer certification is available to those who complete the following Light Brigade courses.

Complete either the four-day Fiber Optics 1‑2‑3 course, three-day Fiber Optics for Mining Applications course, or the three-day Fiber Optics for Oil & Gas course, and successfully pass the ETA certification exam. The FOI is designed for those working with both multimode and single-mode fibers. ETA Fiber Optic Installer certification is valid for four years.

The ETA Fiber Optic Technician—Outside Plant certification is available to those who complete the following Light Brigade courses.

Complete all five days of our Advanced Hands-on Modules or our FTTx for Installers and Technicians course and successfully pass the ETA certification exam. ETA Fiber Optic Technician—Outside Plant (FOT-OSP) certification is valid for four years.

Certification is optional and not a course requirement. You need to request and pay for the test when you register for a class. The test is given during the last two hours of class. There is a $150 testing and certification fee.

FOA Certification

Our Premises/LAN Installation and Maintenance course is eligible for Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) and Advanced Fiber Optic Technician (AFOT) certifications through the Fiber Optic Association (FOA). There is a $60 fee associated with the certification process and the certification is valid for two years. Certification is optional and not a course requirement.

IMSA Certification

The Light Brigade has partnered with the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) to offer a two-level certification program for those who design and install fiber-optic transportation systems.

Fiber Optics for ITS Level I Certification — Complete the two-day Fiber Optics for ITS Level I course and pass the 100-question certification exam. Certification fee is $125.

Fiber Optics for ITS Level II Certification — Complete the two-day Fiber Optics for ITS hands-on course and pass the 100-question certification exam. Certification fee is $125. Level II certification is only available to those who have successfully earned Fiber Optics for Level I certification.

FTTH Council CFHP Certification

The Certified Fiber to the Home Professional program (CFHP) is a certification program sponsored and operated by the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council. Certification at the CFHP level indicates a professional level of technical competence in FTTH and Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB) related technologies and applications. Certification consists of study of FTTH architecture and deployment technology necessary to design and administer an FTTH network. It would not be intended to certify competency in a particular vendor’s equipment, but, rather, to certify competence in overall FTTH theory, terminology, topology, equipment and system cost estimation.

UTC FOP Certification

Complete the three-day Fiber Optics for Utilities course and pass the related exam by demonstrating knowledge of Fiber Optics as indicated by a correct score of 80 percent or greater on the exam. Names of those who achieve the three-year UTC FOP designation will be entered into the UTC FOP database maintained by the UTC for confirmation by prospective employers and others.
