Larry Johnson, founder and president of The Light Brigade, has been at the forefront of training for the fiber optics industry since 1977. Over his three-plus-decade career in the telecommunications industries, Mr. Johnson has built a solid reputation as an expert in all aspects of design, installation, implementation, testing and measurement of fiber optic projects including the design of the Microsoft’s fiber optic campus network, Southwest Fiber project, North Pacific Cable and many others.
His leadership in the optical network industry has resulted in repeated invitations to speak at key conferences worldwide, including the Optical Fiber Conference (OFC), Asia Pacific Conference, Supercomm, Electronicast and KMI conferences, OSP Showcase, Fiber in the Loop, ISA and numerous other professional symposia. He has coordinated FTTH activities at the Optical Fiber Conference, Outside Plant Expo, Fiber to the Home Conference and ECOC Conference.
Mr. Johnson is a member of the Optical Society of America (OSA), the International Society of Optical Engineering, the Society of Cable Television Engineers (SCTE) and the Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI). He participated in the early development of fiber optic standards used for installation, testing and measurement of network and physical plant.
In 2001, he was identified by Fiberoptic Product News as a Luminary of the fiber optics industry. He has co-authored a book on OTDRs titled Troubleshooting Optical-Fiber Networks as well as written numerous articles for trade journals. He is currently writing a handbook for fiber optic technicians, to be published by IEEE Press, and actively archiving the history of fiber optics.
