Fiber Optics for ITS

Fiber Optics for ITSThis four-day course is tailored for those who design, install, and/or maintain Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for city, county, and state transportation departments. The content offers a comprehensive overview of various methods for transmitting control signals and video over fiber, including legacy FM and new digital transmission technologies for real-time video, including compressed video using IP technologies. Learn about traffic controllers and how data is transmitted and distributed from the traffic management center to the controllers, including string and self-healing ring fiber architectures. Take a look at the latest system networks, such as GbE and 10GbE, and the technologies available to support them. Serial, hybrid, and end-to-end ITS fiber networks are also reviewed.

Course objective: To provide a practical understanding of how fiber optics and fiber-optic technology are integrated into modern traffic systems (ITS).

Course level: Introductory to intermediate. Beginners to experienced fiber technicians find the class and extensive hands-on skills training beneficial.

Certification options: The Light Brigade has partnered with the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) to offer a two-level certification program for those who design and install fiber-optic transportation systems.
