Fiber Optics for Utilities
Fiber optic communications is becoming increasingly important in power utilities as Smart Grid technology boosts demand for bandwidth in the telemetry and control (SCADA) of the modern power network infrastructure. This four-day course was developed to help the Utility increase deployment speed and reduce operating costs by improving the fiber optic technology skills of their personnel. Content focuses on the challenges of designing and installing aerial and underground fiber optic networks in power utility transmission and distribution rights-of-way, and emphasizes fiber optic cable technology alternatives such as Optical Ground Wire (OPGW), AllDielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) and Wrap cable. Fiber Optics for Mining Applications
Increased safety requirements and the competitive nature of natural resources recovery has greatly increased the demand for reliable communications in harsh environments. This training program addresses the challenges of deploying and maintaining fiber optic networks in harsh environments in order to improve employee safety, provide reliable communications, improve and measure process efficiency, and provide continuous monitoring and analysis of the hazardous environments. The three day course consists of one and a half days of classroom instruction followed by one and a half days of hands-on instruction. The content structure is tailored to the unique environment and applications of underground, open pit, and strip mines. Get more information
Emergency Restoration
Whether the fiber cable network is above or below ground, inside or outside a building, these words strike fear in any network or outside plant manager. Network outages can cost ten of thousands of dollars every hour your system is offline. When (not if) a problem occurs, it is critical not only to have a recovery program in place, but to have staff that is trained to deal with the emergency in timely, cost-efficient manner. The Emergency Restoration advanced training course will help your organization to develop its own ongoing restoration program. It places heavy emphasis on fault location, troubleshooting, and test equipment, then culminates in a second day of hands-on drills that simulate actual field restorations for both retrievable and non-retrievable slack scenarios.
