March 22, 2010 — The Light Brigade has teamed up with the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council to develop course content and instruction for a new Council program to certify FTTH professionals. The FTTH Council’s Certified Fiber-to-the-Home Professional (CFHP) program, to be launched later this year, is the only curriculum and examination program specifically designed to determine and certify professional competence in FTTH design, architecture, deployment and administration technologies.
The Council will serve as the sponsor and operator of the certification and testing platforms, with The Light Brigade providing relevant instructional materials to support the program. Using The Light Brigade’s 30 years of fiber optic training expertise, the course content will be structured to allow easy absorption and application of the FTTH technology options available to today’s system designers.
“The CFHP course and program is designed to support the development of fiber optic professionals with a high level of proficiency in designing and administering a FTTH network,” said Larry Johnson, Director and Founder of The Light Brigade.
“The need for qualified FTTH professionals is significantly increasing due to the expansion and growth of new FTTH networks and last mile broadband deployments,” said Patrick Dobbins, Vice President and General Manager of The Light Brigade. “The new CFHP training course content and FTTH Council Certification Program will assist the industry to assure that qualified professionals will be available to support FTTH network builds for the future.”
The two-day course will address FTTH design and planning, physical network architecture, video systems, Ethernet/IP networks, business and economic issues, and future migration considerations.
“The need for this kind of program has arisen because of the rapidly growing number of telecommunications providers that are now planning or building fiber to the home networks,” said Joe Savage, President of the FTTH Council. “It makes sense for our organization to establish a credible certification program for those individuals who are going to be building North America’s next generation networks, and we are delighted to have the The Light Brigade on board with us to make this happen.”
