Certified Optical Network Associate (CONA)

Obtain OTT global certification in this course!

CONA is a five-day certification course on the fundamentals of optical network design.  The course covers basic single mode networks, focusing on CWDM and DWDM network design for high speed networks.  It provides fundamentals training for designing networks from the ground up, including passive components, amplification and dispersion compensation.  The course will include a design assignment and a final exam.  Delegates that pass the exam and assignment achieve OTT’s CONA certification.

OTT’s certification courses are recognized globally as among the best optical training programs in the industry.  Light Brigade offers this training in partnership with Fiber Insight’s Tim Yount, who is certified by OTT to teach this course.

Learn how to:

  • Design optical links that provide high capacity, typically up to 10 or 25 Gb/s per channel and with multiple channels per fiber

  • Specify the components required to build a transmission link and describe how they should be configured

  • Identify basic building blocks that can be controlled via SDN

  • Determine the optical power budget of different transmission systems

  • Calculate the optical loss budget for a transmission link

  • Assess the quality of existing fiber infrastructure and its suitability for different systems

  • Decide when and where optical amplifiers are needed and identify suitable products

  • Calculate whether chromatic dispersion compensation is required for a link, and if so specify an appropriate DCM

  • Verify that a link design is viable in terms of power levels, chromatic dispersion limits, and PMD levels
