About the Role
The Data Center Instructor role is responsible for delivering high-quality fiber optic training, managing classroom and equipment setup, and assisting with course development in support of our specialty data center courses. While this role is specifically focused on the hands-on training portion of these customer-specific training courses, the instructor also may be requested to deliver theory content in our virtual classroom or to expand their instruction expertise to other Light Brigade courses. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, customers, and course attendees alike.
Key responsibilities include:
Proper delivery of Light Brigade and customer-specific content for assigned classes.
Submit paperwork in a timely manner to facilitate billing and class close-outs.
Onboard or cross-train new and existing Light Brigade instructors and contractors.
Update and create course materials in conjunction with the Learning Development team.
Assist warehouse staff with equipment needs.
Requirements
Knowledge & Skills Requirements:
Proficiency in many disciplines of fiber optics including but not exclusive to basic fiber optics, data center applications, and optical test equipment.
Ability to convey fiber optic theory and concepts to audiences ranging from complete beginners to highly knowledgeable professionals across all areas of the fiber optic industry.
Able to assess the classroom audience and adjust instruction as needed to ensure that topics are understood without overcomplicating the information.
Able to deliver fiber optic training courses both in-person and in an online virtual classroom.
Capacity to create, edit, and review educational content for use in presentations and printed materials.
Working Conditions:
95% standing, 5% sitting for most instruction weeks
99% indoors, 1% outdoors
Various environments including classrooms, labs, warehouses, and garages
In contact with multiple people weekly
Approximately 85% travel (40 weeks per year, average), 10% working locally or from home, and 5% vacation time
Travel through airport, on airplanes, and rental cars
Weekend travel may be required
Instruction weeks can be up to 65 hours including instruction and travel time
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and be active for up to 10 hours a day in a classroom or lab setting.
Ability to lift and transport boxes and cases up to 65 pounds.
Comfortable working with a team of instructors most weeks.
Keeping healthy, mentally and physically, is highly recommended.
