About the Role
The Full-time Instructor role is responsible for delivering high-quality fiber optic training, managing classroom and equipment setup, and assisting with course development. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, customers, and course attendees alike.
Key responsibilities include:
Proper delivery of assigned classes, both scheduled and custom/specialty courses.
Submit paperwork in a timely manner to facilitate billing and class close-outs.
Onboard new instructors for Light Brigade and Workforce Development programs.
Update and create course materials in conjunction with the Learning Development team.
Assist warehouse staff with equipment needs.
Requirements
Knowledge & Skills Requirements:
Proficiency in many disciplines of fiber optics including but not exclusive to basic fiber optics, specialty applications, and optical test equipment.
Ability to convey fiber optic theory and concepts to audiences ranging from complete beginners to highly knowledgeable professionals across all areas of the fiber optic industry.
Able to assess the classroom audience and adjust instruction as needed to ensure that topics are understood without overcomplicating the information.
Able to deliver fiber optic training courses both in-person and in an online virtual classroom.
Capacity to create, edit, and review educational content for use in presentations and printed materials.
Working Conditions:
85% standing, 15% sitting for most instruction weeks
99% indoors, 1% outdoors
Various environments including classrooms, labs, warehouses, and garages
In contact with multiple people weekly
Approximately 80% travel (40 weeks per year, average), 13% working locally or from home, and 7% vacation time
Travel through airport, on airplanes, and rental cars
Weekend travel approximately 10 times per year
Instruction weeks can be up to 65 hours including instruction and travel time.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and be active for up to 10 hours a day in a classroom setting.
Ability to lift and transport boxes and cases up to 65 pounds.
Comfortable working alone most weeks.
Keeping healthy, mentally and physically, is highly recommended
