Light Brigade Announces Collaboration with Sumitomo Electric Lightwave

(Kent, WA) –Jan 6, 2022 - Light Brigade, the global leader in fiber optic skills training has further diversified and strengthened its agnostic stance as an independent technical authority. Today, they announced the completion of a collaboration agreement with Sumitomo Electric Lightwave to incorporate Sumitomo Electric’s fusion splicers into Light Brigades Fiber Optics 1-2-3 skills training.

Sumitomo Electric’s fusion splicers are a welcome addition to Light Brigade’s training classes and will allow students to experience hands-on exposure with the latest in fusion splicing gear. Sumitomo Electric Lightwave will supply Light Brigade with fusion splicing equipment for classroom use and provide technical support to ensure Light Brigade remains at the forefront of fusion splicing technology.

The two companies have worked together to develop a comprehensive introduction to fusion splicing fundamentals training that has been incorporated into the recently re-engineered Fiber Optics 1-2-3 course. The structured skills competency assessment ensures that students walk away with a firm understanding of splicer maintenance, equipment, and fiber preparation, splicing and splice protection, estimated and actual splice losses, and how to troubleshoot and correct common splice errors.

Light Brigade will provide a co-branded certificate of completion in “Fusion Splicing Fundamentals” to students who also complete Light Brigade's broader focused Fiber Optics 1-2-3 course. Credly, Light Brigade’s partner in digital badging, will issue the digital credentials. Students will be able to share their Fusion Splicing Fundamentals and Fiber Optics 1-2-3 digital credentials accomplishments on social media, web pages, and in signature lines.
