Light Brigade Exhibiting & Presenting at the 2024 BICSI Winter Conference

Light Brigade is excited to announce that they will once again be exhibiting and presenting at the BICSI Winter Conference held in Orlando Florida, January 28 – February 1.

In support of the 2024 BICSI Winter Conference, Light Brigade is an apparel sponsor for the Cabling Skills Challenge, which supports all BICSI-credentialed Installers and Technicians.

Light Brigade’s Technical Director, Sean Kelly, RCDD, will be presenting a Pre-Conference Masterclass and participating in/moderating a concurrent session.

The Pre-Conference Masterclass: Help Close the Digital Divide – FTTx Outside Plant Design.  This masterclass will focus on the proper design of FTTx point-to-point and point-to-multipoint passive optical networks (PON) with home-run, centralized, and distributed topologies. Students will learn about the importance of customer take rate and density, and how they apply to your design. The masterclass will review various network configurations, design benchmarks, splitter locations, termination techniques, and installation parameters for FTTx systems. Economic node location decisions based on various architectures will be examined, followed by a comparison of PON vs. Active Ethernet design considerations. Finally, co-existence with the next generation of FTTx systems, futureproofing, future growth and migration, and fiber sizing will be explored. This masterclass will be presented on Monday, January 29, at 1:00pm in Sebastian II.

The Concurrent Session: TALES FROM THE FIELD: TOP 5 MISTAKES WE SEE AND HOW TO AVOID THEM. With higher data rates and faster speeds, proper installation and testing is more critical than ever before. Our experienced presenters have seen it all -- the good, the bad, and the ugly. Whether forgotten, unintentionally overlooked, or simply not known, these common errors can spell disaster for not only timelines and budgets but the long-term reliability of critical systems. This panel of seasoned experts — including Rodney Casteel of CommScope, David Tannis of AFL, Cole Bondy of EXFO, and Brian Teague of Old Castle — will highlight the potential pitfalls and discuss proper methodologies to avoid them. Sean Kelly, RCDD, will serve as moderator and presenter for this panel session, which will take place on Wednesday, January 31, at 1:00pm in Sebastian L4.
